Choosing the correct MiWorkplace version

MiWorkplace is available for all major operating systems. Choosing the correct operating systems in the download section should be easy enough for everybody.

But when it comes to 32 or 64 bit it gets a little more complicated. Most of the time you can just take the architecture of the operating system and choose your download. But in some cases this results in an ugly error on starting up MiWorkplace.

Most of the time the reason is that you chose the correct download regarding your operating system but the installed Java version does not resemble your architecture. You can install a 32 bit Java Runtime Environment on a Windows 64 bit system. Now you have to download the Windows 32 bit version instead of the 64 bit version.

So the safest way to determine which version you should download is by looking at the Java version.

java -version

If the output is something like this (with the note to 64 bit)

java version "1.7.0_85"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea 2.6.1) (7u85-2.6.1-6~deb7u1)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.85-b03, mixed mode)

then choose the 64 bit version of MiWorkplace else use the 32 bit version.
